Swiss researchers are developing a headless robot called COMAN (Compliant Humanoid) that can walk naturally with the help of more flexible, elastic joints and a control algorithm that helps the bot understand its own body. The robot is aware of the symmetries in its dynamics and structure, allowing it to carry objects, navigate uneven surfaces, and react to surprises. The technology is still a long way from creating robots that can interact with the world on their own.
